About us

CAGR Calculator is a free tool for anyone who wants a straight answer to “how fast did this grow?” — investors checking a portfolio, founders reporting revenue growth, students learning compound interest, and analysts comparing companies.

Why we built it

Most CAGR calculators stop at one number, bury the tool under ads, or round your holding period to whole years. We wanted one that handles exact dates, solves for any missing value, shows the working, and explains what the result actually means — including after inflation. So we built it, and kept it free.

What you can do here

  • Calculate CAGR from a start value, end value and years, months or exact dates.
  • Run CAGR in reverse to find a future value, the starting amount you need, or the time to reach a target.
  • Analyse year-by-year data to see actual yearly growth, best and worst years and volatility.
  • Compare up to five investments on the same yearly scale, and export any result to Excel.

How we check the maths

All calculations use the standard compound annual growth rate formula, (End ÷ Start)^(1 ÷ Years) − 1. Exact-date periods are converted to years using the average Gregorian year of 365.2425 days, and real CAGR uses the Fisher equation, (1 + CAGR) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1. We test results against Excel’sRRI, FV, PV and NPER functions, and every result on the site shows its working and the matching Excel formula so you can verify it yourself.

Our principles

  • Private by design. Everything runs in your browser. We do not store or transmit your inputs — see our privacy policy.
  • No sign-up, no clutter. The calculator is the first thing on the page and results appear as you type.
  • Show the working. Formulas, Excel equivalents and year-by-year tables accompany every result.
  • Plain language, nine languages. The calculator is available in English, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Portuguese, Korean, Italian and Chinese.
  • Education, not advice. We explain how growth works; we don’t recommend products or tell you what to buy.
